R. Fowler pottery history |

Enoch Fowler arrived in Sydney from Ireland in 1837, and established a pottery that mainly supplied the building and industrial trades. His son Robert managed the business from 1873. After WWI, the demand for domestic wares grew, and Fowler’s produced a wide range of pottery for the home, including Langley ware and banded ‘Cornish’ tableware in blue or green with white. They opened a second factory at Thomastown, near Melbourne, in 1927. The company still operates, but manufacture is limited to sanitary fixtures. Below, a Fowler delivery truck, about 1920.
